Wi-Fi QR codes adhere to the cross-platform specification established by the wireless industry. Special reserved characters (semicolons, colons, backslashes) are escaped to prevent connection errors:

How do users connect using this QR code?
On both iOS and Android, opening the built-in camera app and pointing it at the Wi-Fi QR code displays a prompt: "Join Network [SSID]". Tapping that notification connects the phone directly to the Wi-Fi without having to type the password.
Does this work for hidden Wi-Fi networks?
Yes. Simply check the "This is a hidden Wi-Fi network" option. The generated payload sets the hidden flag (H:true;;) so the smartphone searches for the non-broadcasted SSID.
